Cycle to Work Day has rolled to a close for another year. Now it’s time to celebrate what we did, why we did it and share some amazing achievements from cycle commuters across the UK and Ireland. WHAT WE DID:
Cycle to Work Day may be the UK’s biggest celebration of everyday cycling – but it’s ran by the smallest of teams. Based in Cyclescheme HQ in the South West of England, we pulled together an event that was supported by employers with 1,170,000 workers across the UK. This included event planning, a brand-new website, and the creation of bold resources for commuters, their employers and our much-loved bike retailers.
We have done emails, posters, social media updates, interactive installations, Facebook frames – basically, everything we could to ensure that every worker in the UK and Ireland knew about Cycle to Work Day. A fantastic offer was established with leading cycling brands Cyclescheme, Cannondale and Specialized and best in-class rebate reward card, Pure. The deal saw any rider getting a Cannondale or Specialized bike priced £500 or more via Cyclescheme get rewarded with £30 for FREE to spend on accessories!
Once the detail was locked down for the day – an army of incredible individuals and organisations got involved to help make Cycle to Work Day one to remember. Inspirational people in HR teams and Comms departments ensured their workforces were ready to celebrate the day. Meanwhile the best independent and big-name bike stores across the UK and Ireland kitted commuters out head to toe for the event. Cycle commuting superstars rallied around their offices and encourage colleagues to get in the saddle and just try cycling. And business leaders wrote cheques for bike breakfasts, donned helmets to join staff rides, and supported their cycle commuting colleagues with enthusiasm. WHY WE DID IT: There’s a well-known saying that will resonate with many passionate cyclists, and this underpins why we started and continue to run #CycletoWorkDay:

It's #CycletoWorkDay! 🚲 I support cycling with @BristolCouncil because it's a sustainable zero-carbon commute & great exercise! Over 26 million trips were made on bikes in #Bristol last year, and continuing investment in infrastructure shows our commitment to safer cycling. pic.twitter.com/LKkesBH6d8 — Marvin Rees (@MarvinJRees) August 15, 2018
